Signature Programs

Our Signature Programs

Hands-on programs that help every BHSB student build skills, find belonging, and get ready for college and careers.

Civics for All

Through Civics for All, students learn how to make their voices heard and create change in their school, community, and city. Students research issues they care about, engage with local leaders, and take action through projects that put democracy into practice.

Dual Enrollment and College Now

Through College Now and dual enrollment partnerships, BHSB students take real college courses and earn college credit while still in high school, at no cost to families. Students get an early start on their degree and build the confidence to know they belong on a college campus.

Peer Group Connection (PGC)

Peer Group Connection, a signature program of the Center for Supportive Schools, trains junior and senior peer leaders to mentor first-year students as they transition into high school. Through weekly outreach sessions, ninth graders build connections, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging from day one.

Campus Sports Programs

BHSB can participate in over 20 PSAL sports programs including Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Track and field and Wrestling. Supported by two gyms, two dance studios, a weight room and an athletic center, and a newly renovated field. Student athletes learn teamwork, find belonging, and build relationships with students across the Taft campus, creating connections that carry into the classroom and beyond.

FutureReadyNYC Cybersecurity Pathway

Through the FutureReadyNYC Cybersecurity Pathway, students build real-world tech skills in network security, digital safety, and problem-solving. Students explore careers in one of the fastest-growing industries and gain hands-on experience that prepares them for college, credentials, and the workforce.

KickNKnowledge: Sneaker Design Program

KickNKnowledge blends creativity, design, and business through the culture of sneakers. Students learn the design process from sketch to finished product while exploring careers in fashion, branding, and product development.

Ownership Is the Future

Ownership Is the Future teaches students to think like founders. In this elective, students develop their own business ideas, write plans, and get startup support to turn ideas into real ventures, building financial literacy and leadership along the way.

LIT Store

The LIT Store is BHSB’s student-run business, where students manage inventory, sales, and customer service in a real retail setting. Every student can earn LIT Points for strong attendance and engagement, then cash them in for items at the store each week. It’s a fun way to celebrate students for showing up and putting in the work.

CSS Community School

BHSB is a full-service community school, partnering with the Center for Supportive Schools to connect students and families with the support they need to thrive in and out of the classroom. We build and sustain a system of care and support that connects students and families to mental health resources, events, activities, internships, peer leadership opportunities, and community partners.
